For Macintosh® computers:
Here are some tips that will make Caboodle run better on your computer. Talk to a parent or teacher if you're having trouble and show them this section of tips.
QuickTime® application program for Macintosh - If you are unable to view QuickTime videos, check that the QuickTime extensions are installed in the Extensions folder located in the System folder of your startup disk. If they aren't, or you suspect that your version of QuickTime® is outdated, the most recent QuickTime® extensions and installation instructions are located on the Caboodle CD in the MacQT folder, located in the Kit folder.
The QuickTime® files are compressed, so simply double-click on the file QT21.SEA to decompress them to your desktop or a folder. Carefully follow Apple's update instructions.
CD-ROM Errors -- 'Foriegn File Access' and 'ISO 9660 File Access' Extensions must be installed. If you receive a system message stating "This disk is unreadable by this Macintosh. Do you want to initialize the disk?" or if your system freezes during startup with the CD in the drive, these extensions probably are not installed. Relocate them from your 'System|Extensions (Disabled)' folder to the 'System|Extensions' folder. If they are not on your system, they must be installed from your Macintosh System Disks or the disk that came with your CD-ROM drive.

For PC's with Windows 3.x:
Here are some tips that will make Caboodle run better on your computer. Talk to a parent or teacher if you're having trouble and show them this section of tips.
QuickTime® application program for Windows - If you are unable to view QuickTime videos, or you suspect that your version of QuickTime is outdated, run the program QTINSTAL.EXE, which is on the Caboodle CD. Run the QTINSTAL.EXE program from the Program Manager, using the menu commands File|Run|Browse to locate the program in the WINQT subdirectory under the KIT directory. The program will check for a previous QuickTime installation and upgrade, if necessary.
CD-ROM Performance - If Caboodle plays unevenly, it's possible that SMARTDRV.EXE is not installed, or it's installed after the CD-ROM driver. To correct these situations, open the file C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT using Notepad, located in the Accessories Group of the Program Manager. Find the lines which include SMARTDRV.EXE and MSCDEX.EXE. They should resemble the following lines, with additional letters either at the beginning or the end of the line:
If both exist, make sure that the SMARTDRV line is located below the MSCDEX line. If not, relocate the entire SMARTDRV line without making any changes to it.
If the SMARTDRV line does not exist, insert: LH C:\WINDOWS\SMARTDRV.EXE
below the MSCDEX.EXE line. This implements Microsoft’s disk caching program for more efficient playback.

For PC's with Win95:
Here are some tips that will make Caboodle run better on your computer. Talk to a parent or teacher if you're having trouble and show them this section of tips.
QuickTime® application program for Windows - If you are unable to view QuickTime videos, or you suspect that your version of QuickTime is outdated, run the program QTINSTAL.EXE, which is on the Caboodle CD. Run the QTINSTAL.EXE program by clicking on Start|Run|Browse to locate the program in the WINQT subdirectory under the KIT directory. The program will check for a previous QuickTime installation and upgrade, if necessary.
CD-ROM Performance - If Caboodle plays unevenly, it may be due to improper CD-ROM caching or lack of available memory.
To adjust CD-ROM caching: Click on: Start|Settings|Control Panel, double-click on System, click on Performance|File System|CD-ROM. The ‘Optimize access pattern for:’ setting should match the speed of your CD-ROM drive. (single-speed, double-speed, etc.)
To address shortage of available memory: If the CD-ROM setting is correct, additional memory can be freed up by closing other applications. If this doesn’t help, additional RAM may be needed in the computer.
