Email archiving could be a solution to the increasing data storage requirements of a firm. A lot of space is required for mail storage and at some point the emails need to be archived. However, simple archiving wouldn’t work.
One of the most important features that the archiving should take care of is the folder structure present on the user’s account. Mixing up the mails of different folders virtually renders the archive useless for future reference as search function wouldn’t simply be helpful. It is also important to choose a perfect retention time before you decide to archive the mails. Finally, stubbing or displaying the subject and the first few lines of a mail to the user is a feature that is desirable in archiving. This is to ensure that archiving doesn’t change anything for the end user. Finally the archiver should have enough storage space and is flexible enough for future expansion.
